Diana Hamilton’s UK based Drummer buys new set of drums and pays fees for 3 year old talent in Ghana
Renowned British-Ghanaian drummer Stephen Asamoah-Duah, also known as DrummerboySJ, recently showed support for a young boy after coming across his video online.
Stephen, who aims to perform one act of kindness each month, seized the opportunity to help a 3-year-old Ghanaian boy named Kofi, who lives in Achimota, in Ghana. Stephen was inspired to assist Kofi after receiving a TikTok video from a colleague showcasing Kofi’s resourcefulness in making his own drum set from a container, vase, and toothbrush, as his drumstick.
Determined to nurture Kofi’s talent, Stephen arranged for a drum kit to be provided during his last trip to Ghana with the help of Ghanaian based drummer Aduberkz. Not only did Stephen deliver the drum set, but he also generously offered to cover Kofi’s school fees for a year.
Stephen’s journey in drumming began at the tender age of two, when he would tap on his mother’s pots and pans and household furniture. His passion for drumming was further ignited when he received a drum kit as a Christmas gift at the age of three. Despite facing setbacks, such as not making it to the top 10 in the UK Young Drummer Of The Year competition in 2010, Stephen persevered and triumphed the following year, earning the title of Young Drummer Of The Year 2011. Reflecting on his achievements, Stephen expressed his unwavering dedication to pursuing his passion for drums.
As a member of a British-Ghanaian musical ensemble, “THE COMPOZERS” consisting of Stephen Asamoah-Duah on drums, Nana Ntorinkansah on bass guitar, David Ohene-Akrasi on keytar, and Charlie Mensah-Bonsu on keyboard, Stephen has had the privilege of performing on prominent stages and collaborating with renowned artists worldwide.
He also plays for Ghanaian gospel diva Diana Hamilton in the United Kingdom.
Despite receiving praise for his actions, Stephen humbly emphasized that his motivation stems from a desire to highlight untapped talents globally and encourage others to lend a helping hand whenever possible.
